Cardwell Garden Centre in Gourock’s popular series of events continues with a full weekend of activities starting this Friday. All events are free and undercover – even the Scottish weather won’t spoil the fun.

The weekend starts early with the Centre’s  well known Patio Restaurant hosting a MacMillan coffee morning on Friday the 27th of September. This annual event aims to raise as much money as possible for this wonderful charity.

You can have a free cup of filter coffee or a cup of tea in exchange for a donation to MacMillan. Every penny donated from Friday’s coffee morning will go directly to the MacMillan organisation.

The craft fair at Cardwell is always a popular event, with local crafters displaying and selling their unique and interesting range of products on Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm.

For 2013, the event is bigger than ever with around 40 different exhibitors catering for all tastes and interests. On top of this the Centre’s team of crafters will be hosting various demonstrations throughout the weekend so get there in good time.

The Centre has been hosting the Strathclyde Leek And Onion Society Annual Show for over 20 years.

The society’s showcase event allows growers from all over the country to display their produce, the fruits of many months hard work.

With classes for the best, the largest and the worst vegetable in show, the variety of produce on display is breathtaking. The growers and show organisers are on hand for the whole weekend and are a very friendly bunch who are happy to discuss their techniques, although they won’t give away all their secrets.

The show opens on Saturday after judging, around 1pm, and closes at 5pm. It will be open all day Sunday until about 4pm when the growers will start to pack up.

In addition to the above the ever popular Westcoast Sound accordion band, magician Magic Den with his unique close up tricks including balloon model making and Cardwell own BBQ team will all be making an appearance on Sunday between 11am and 4pm.

The entire event is completely free to enter, we will not make any charges at all. Instead, we would ask that you help us support our charity partners the MacMillan organisation, Ardgowan Hospice and Clic Sargent.
